The British Deputy Prime Minister has responded to Trump’s Vice Presidential candidate’s claims that the UK would be the first “Islamist” country to get access to nuclear weapons.
Deputy Prime Minister Hits Out
Britain’s Deputy Prime Minister has hit out at Donald Trump’s Vice Presidential candidate for joking that the UK is an “Islamist” country.
Rayner Rejects “Islamist” Statement
The newly appointed Deputy Prime Minister for the Labour Party, Angela Rayner, has insisted that the UK is not an “Islamist” country following the American politician’s words.
Vice President Candidate’s Comments
Trump’s newly appointed Vice Presidential candidate, JD Vance, joked about Labour’s UK general election, which Rayner did not take lightly.
Vance Mocks Labour Government
Vance claimed that under a Labour government, the UK would be the first “Islamist” country to have access to nuclear weapons.
A Contentious Discussion
Vance claimed that he and a friend were discussing who would be the first “Islamist” country to gain access to a nuclear arsenal.
Controversial Statement
According to Vance, the UK would be “the first truly Islamist country that will get a nuclear weapon.”
“Maybe It’s the UK”
“We were like maybe it’s Iran, maybe Pakistan kind of counts, and then we sort of decided maybe it’s actually the UK since Labour just took over,” Vance continued.
Rayner “Proud” of Labour’s Diversity
Labour’s Deputy Prime Minister Angela Rayner replied by claiming she was “proud” of the Labour government despite the backlash from the candidate for Vice President.
Highlighting Labour’s Success
Rayner said, “I don’t recognise that characterisation. I’m very proud of the election success that Labour had recently.”
Labour to Work With Allies
Rayner highlighted the wide range of support that Labour received across the country and claimed that its intention is to work with its international allies despite Vance’s words.
Rayner Unphased by Vance
“We won votes across all different communities, across the whole of the country, and we’re interested in governing on behalf of Britain and also working with our international allies,” Rayner said.
A Message to the Tories
Vance issued his support for the Conservatives by issuing a message to former Prime Minister Rishi Sunak’s Party.
Get a Grip, Tories
Vance said, “But to my Tory friends, I have to say, you guys have got to get a handle on this,” referring to the lack of public confidence towards the Party as shown by the general election results.
British Politicians Speak Out
Vance’s comments reflect those of a number of British politicians in the last year who have criticised the UK for its election of a Muslim Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan.
Braverman’s Controversial Comments
According to Conservative politician and former Home Secretary Suella Braverman, the UK had allowed itself to become taken over by extremists.
Britain Is “Sleepwalking”
Braverman insisted in an article she wrote that the UK was “sleepwalking into a ghettoised society,” but her comments didn’t end there.
“Islamists” in Charge
“The truth is that the Islamists, the extremists and the anti-Semites are in charge now,” she said in the article. This rhetoric was then repeated by one of her former colleagues.
Anderson’s Comments on Islam
The comments were repeated by former Tory MP Lee Anderson, who claimed that Said Khan had allowed “Islamists” to take over London. This was met with considerable backlash.
Reform UK Make Move
Anderson was subsequently removed from the Conservative Party and was later picked up by their right-wing rivals, Reform UK.
Setting a Dangerous Precedent
Vance’s similar rhetoric to the Conservative politicians shows a dangerous trend that has now reached the US and will no doubt spread worldwide that the UK is an “Islamist” country.
